Baby Jane: B-7 World Series

Baby bunny quilt

Completed top for baby bunny quilt.

The base designed with double pin wheel blocks 

6x6 inch blocks

13  4.5"x4.5" bunny fabrics which are cut into 4 quarters each as shown here

13  4.5"x4.5" squares inyellow spotted fabric also cut into 4 triangles each 

26 4 1/8" x 4 1/8" blue squares then cut into 2 triangles 

As the bunny fabric is directional I divided the triangles into the four different directional triangles, they then have to be stitched together with the yellow triangles - from sketch you can see what side they have to be pierced.

When all have been pieced then add the blue triangle to create a square

Then trim the squares to exactly 3 ½ x3 ½"

Use the ruler to make sure midpoint is exactly 1 3/4 

When all are trimmed then piece four squares together to create one pinwhee, remember the directional bunnies so one from each pile.

Now cut 12   6½ x 6½" bunny squares

And piece the blocks together watch out for directions of the bunny.

Two bunnies are cut and hand appliquéd on

I used this template, transferred to freeze paper and cut out and ironed onto the fabric on wrong side cut with a generous seam allowance for turning and hand appliquéd. If machine appliqué cut without seam allowance.

Heart wall hanging

I was looking for a pattern suitable to celebrate a wedding for a close friend 

I altered the pattern a bit using hand appliqué turning over and quilting inside the hearts.

Hand appliquéd hearts

Quilting in the ditch and then made lines around the borders at 5/8 inch distances

Keeping the lines centred in the hearts made it just that bit better

Had this little sheep button which I lived to use

Dear Jane, block B-8, Water Lily

Completed the appliqué on this one travelling from Glasgow to London.

Made the rookie mistake of first turning the star 45 degree wrong

Had to unpick all and do it again - lesson always double check layout 

Dear Jane, Block A-7, Dad's Plaids

Loving this red and white

First I pierced the block then marked the 4 melons 

And then appliquéd the 4 melons on

Dear Jane, Block B-11, Melissa's cross

First did centre using foundation paper piecing then appliquéd the little curves to the side triangles edge and then pieced them to the centre

Dear Jane, Block C-11

This is done using reverse appliqué for the centre circle then normal hand appliqué for the corner circles and then piecing the border in at the end

I first looked for a good image for the centre

Used freeze paper for the corners, slightly larger than I would require as my background was larger to ensure block size inthe end ok after appliqué

Such a cute little block, had to choose a pink for this one.

Hand appliqué.

I marked the hearts out on a plain block slightly larger so I could trim later.

Had fun with a large print again

Cut the centre 4 pieces along one line to get the kalidiscope effect

Pieced the 4 centre pieces together making sure the lines align to get full kalidiscope effect.

Then cut a piece of freeze paper for the centre.

Cut the neutral background block larger than finished block to allow trimming later

Folded the background to give guide lines and pinned the star to background

Then appliquéd the centre, followed by the little melons at the corners and then trimmed the block to the 5x5

Dear Jane, Block E-5, Rising Sun

A real fun block, gets a bit thick in the middle after foundation paper piercing the two halves and joining them up.

I trimmed the seam quite narrow in the centre as the circular sun would cover the centre after appliqué.

Dear Jane, Block G-12, Gloriae

Here I used some Japanese fabric, I used foundation paper piecing for the surround and the cut the centre as 5 parts, appliquéd them on.

Quite striking I think 

Dear Jane, Block RS7 Fedelia's Hearts

I liked this one as soon as I saw it and knew it had to be red.

Symbolising our family, Keith and I and our 3 daughters

First I foundation paper pieced the top, I kept the lower part slightly larger than pattern so I could trim after appliqué, I then marked out where the hearts should go, double checking with my dear Jane triangle to ensure the hearts would be inside the seam.

Then appliquéd from top to bottom.

I kept the paper in to get nice shapes and then cut them out from the back afterwards.

After that I trimmed the triangle.

Dear Jane Block A-10 Which Points West

Once again a mix of reverse and normal appliqué.

I started by making the centre using reverse appliqué. I cut a slightly larger square of both fabric and then after doing the appliqué I trimmed it to the exact size 

Then to get dual effect with mitred corners I first added a triangle to each corner, and using a 45 degree angle I lined where to pierce in the corner

Then I trimmed

And then repeated this time I used a slightly wider strips and sewed them on each side avoiding the 1/4 inch seam distance at the corners 

Then mitred the corners the same way

I could the appliqué the 4 cones

And the block could now be trimmed
